It’s Mardi Gras time in Southwest Louisiana! This time of the year is just one of the many reasons Southwest Louisiana is a great place to live, work, and play.
From royal galas, parades, king cakes and beads to the legendary gumbo cook-off and the Motor Gras parade, we have it all! Lake Charles’ Mardi Gras celebration is second only to New Orleans in our state. Lake Charles is the only area where the public is invited to view the elaborate costumes from all of the krewes; other areas require an invitation from someone in the krewe. Both the 12th Night celebration in January and the Royal Gala, held the day before Fat Tuesday, are open to the public. These events showcase royalty from each krewe, and entertain the crowds with a parade of exquisite costumes. Many of our surrounding cities have Mardi Gras events that are fun for all ages.
Here is a list of all the SWLA Mardi Gras activities, including the big Krewe of Krewes Parade on February 17. Make plans to join us for as many events as possible. Happy Mardi Gras, y’all!
